The Romans built a nymphaeum here around the spring that fed Carthage, and then an aqueduct 132 kilometres long to carry the water there. What survives is the temple itself, half-circular against the mountain, with the water still running. Arches of the aqueduct stand in fields for miles afterwards, and once you have seen the source you notice them the whole way back.
