The base price covers a set number of seats — four in a saloon on most of these, five on some. A group of five to eight needs a minivan, which is a second published tier rather than a surcharge invented at the point of booking.

Accommodation is the one thing these figures do not always contain, and it is stated per circuit rather than buried: on some the desert camp night is in the price, on others the hotel nights are quoted with your dates once you say how many rooms you need.
Almost everything sold to visitors in Tunisia is priced per head, because almost everything is a seat on a coach. A car and a driver cost the same for a day whether one person or four sit in it, so pricing it per head would mean charging a family of four twice what a couple pays for identical work.
That produces a crossover rather than a winner. Sampled in September 2026, private day tours of the Tunis sites were listed on the two big marketplaces at €50 to €92 per person, one of them at €204 for a group of up to three, and a shared coach seat to the same sites at about €39 per person. Against our €74 for the car:

So a solo traveller should take the coach and we will say so. Two people are within a few euro either way. From three the private car is cheaper than the coach and less than half the price of a private tour bought through a marketplace, which is the same car with a commission on top. Marketplace prices move with the date and the party size, and the figure they advertise is always their cheapest.

The licensed guide is the one worth understanding. Your driver is local, knows the roads and speaks your language, and that is included. A licensed national guide is a separate qualification and a separate person, charged per vehicle rather than per head, so on a day trip for four it costs about the same as one marketplace seat.

And one thing that does not: the date. There is no high-season price, no weekend supplement and no surcharge for a public holiday. The same trip in August costs what it costs in February. There is also nothing to pay up front — no deposit is taken and no card is charged, you pay the driver, and cancelling more than 24 hours ahead costs nothing.

For one traveller the coach is cheaper and we will say so. For two it is within a few euro either way.
